Bologna, the unforgettable old and charming city
The importance of Bologna in Italy and Europe is significant from the point of view of culture, trade, social, political and industrial.
A nick name of Bologna is basket city, referring to Bologna’s obsession with basketball, unusual in Italy, where the football is dominating. Bologna has demonstrated a rich musical tradition that is continuing to evolve.
The “trecentesco” nucleus of the Greater Republic square of Bologna is making possible the feel the atmosphere and ancient of the city. Here is the he basilica of S. Petronio and the main palaces of medieval city (the Podestà, the Commune and the Notary palaces).
From 1200, there are two spectaculars towers (Asinelli and Garisenda). The eventual climb to the tower Assinelli, 500 steps (97 meters of height) demands at least half of an hour and efforts; but the panorama of the city and the hill that is enjoyed from its top, deserve the effort, when the day is limpid.
Just beside the Two Towers there is a splendid public square of merchandise, with an elegant palace always opened. The splendid complex of S. Stefano presents more evocative and precious places of the city: various churches, picturesque gardens and alleys. You must find a good hotel with the popular hotel search engine prontohotel to have a unforgettable vacation in Bologna.
Bologna is renowned for its culinary tradition too. It is the food capital of Italy. It has given its name to “Bolognese sauce” a meat based pasta sauce. As in all Emilia-Romagna, the production of cured pork meat such as prosciutto, salame and mortadella is an important part of the local food production.
